Magnificent Cougar

This good looking guy belongs to Charlotte M., who is the daughter of a familiar and helpful library staff member whom you can find at the circulation desk or behind the reference desk. (Can you guess who that is?) However, Charlotte is currently overseas serving her country and Cougar looks like he is faithfully waiting for her to come home.

What kind of emotions do cats have? Does Cougar really miss Charlotte? Maybe you can find the answer here in this new book called Do cats always land on their feet? : 101 of the most perplexing questions answered about feline unfathomables, medical mysteries & befuddling behaviors. It's a small volume, but it answers all sorts of questions and is fun to read. Check it out!

Your cat could be a star!!

I'm going to get personal today and post some photos of my cats because I love them dearly and after all, it IS Valentine's Day. If you have a cute photo of your cat (okay, a dog would be good too) please send them to me and we'll post them on the blog for everyone to admire.

Did you know that almost all of the library staff at Brooks have cats? Yes, we are a bunch of cat lovers. And if not cat lovers, dog lovers. And if not animal lovers, knitting lovers. So send me a photo of what you love and we'll share it with the world. You can send it to sara@brooks.lib.vt.us. I'm looking forward to seeing if anyone has cats as cute as mine!

It's a Snow Day!

And if you're home from school with nothing to do (assuming you've finished shoveling) here are a few sites for teens to check out:

1. Teen Voices Online
2. Carnagie Library of Pittsburgh- Staff suggestions for reading
3. Cool Quiz
4. No Flying, No Tights (graphic novels)
5. Recipes for Teens (easy cooking)

Now go back outside. There is probably more snow for you to shovel!

Coming soon to a shelf near you

Need I say more???? Probably not, but fans can read more about this book and the others at Sisterhood Central.
You can also place a reserve on this book right now and be one of the first to read it.

Chocolate, anybody?

If you like chocolate and you like the library you'll want to buy raffle tickets for this big basket of chocolate goodies.
The raffle is being held by the Friends of Brooks Memorial Library. Tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. The drawing for the basket will be held on February 14th so be sure to buy your tickets before that day.

Do you know the Friends of the Library? The Friends hold the annual book sale during the Strolling of the Heifers to raise money to help support the library. They also publish a newsletter. Click here to download the current edition.
