Wikipedia -- Yes or No?

Have you ever used Wikipedia? Chances are that you've paid the site a visit or two, maybe even when working on a homework assignment. And chances are that you also know that it just might not be the most reliable site. Hopefully you've realized that it might be a starting point, but you're going to have to dig a bit deeper to really find out what's what.

Here's a good article written by a teenager about using Wikipedia for a homework assignment. Check it out--it's a good read!

And the winner is....

the very very popular Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants!! It's been around for awhile--long enough to produce two sequels. This summer some of you who had never gotten around to reading it gave it a try and found out why it has been such a popular book. The library also has a copy of the movie.

Here's the best news yet--according to the Sisterhood Website author Ann Brashares has a NEW BOOK coming out in January. It's called Forever in Blue and is about the fourth and last (?) summer the girls have together. Of course the library will be ordering a copy.

Thank you to everyone who voted this summer in the Survivor Book Club. You can find copies of all the books in the Teen Room now. Any thoughts on what to do with the coconut bookends????

Kick Butt

I'm a little sad to have to kick The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big, Round Things off the Island this week. It was my favorite, and I've heard from other Survivor Readers that this book was a surprise... a very pleasant surprise. Many of us didn't like the title, and the cover is nothing special. But please give this book a try because it is a great read. Here is a link to the author's website.

We're down to just two books on the Island now--Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and A Great and Terrible Beauty. Two very different books.... and this is your last chance to vote and determine the winner!

Shaping the Future

This month the library is doing a survey to get input for the Library five year plan. Your voice is important!! And your voice will be heard if you take the survey. Click here to get to the link for the survey. It is important that teens express their needs so that we can expand our programming. The survey is short and easy. If you hate computers (what are you doing reading this then???) you can get a paper copy of the survey in the library. You can also use a special computer at the front desk in the library to fill out the survey.

Thank you for your help with this!! It is just one way to make your voice heard in the library. See... we are NOT all about SHHHHing!! We truly DO want to hear your voice!
