A Successful MangaFest

MangaFest '06 was a big success with many people dropping in to check out new manga and watch the two anime. You can find the new manga at the library by doing a search on "manga" in the online catalog. You can also find the two new anime (Azumanga Daioh and DTAngel) in the same search.
Also, many thanks to Kira and John for going the extra mile in helping with this event. We had other members of the TAB helping during the day, and a special moving crew who got all the furniture in the Teen Room into the elevator at once. I wish we'd taken a photo of that!

There will be plenty to do--new manga to look at, anime films (for ages 12+), origami instruction, and a few contests. We will also be giving away some manga samplers, and there will be plenty of refreshments. If you don't know anything about manga and anime, here are a few web sites to check out:
Anime Checklist
Anime News Network
Anime Research.com
Anime Web Turnpike
How to draw Manga –Manga University
Manga Life
No flying, no tights for Teens
TokyoPop
Viz Media

If you know of some more sites, drop me an e-mail and let me know!

What's next, or what order do they go in?

Have you ever read a book that was part of a series and not known which book came next or which book you should have read first? Here are two links that can help you with that. The first one is specifically for teen books. It is called Series and Sequels and comes to us from the Bettendorf Public Library in Iowa. You can search by author name or by series title. Another similar list, but for adult books, is found at the Los Angeles Public Libray. It is also called Series and Sequels. In this index you can also search by the name of a character in the series. I tried a few searches and found it very helpful!

The guys are back....

But you'll hardly notice them. You'll have to look up to see them....

Meanwhile, if you haven't been in the Teen Room lately, plan on dropping in. Maybe during Vacation Week next week? The shelves are filled with lots of good reading and the magazines rack has been moved so that it is easier to browse. Also, for teen events at the library check the library calendar. You will have to scroll to the bottom and then select "Teen Events" from the pop-down menu.

Knitting circle ... a note from Leslie

Just a reminder that the knitting circle is Thursday February 16th!!

Knitting is a very social activity. Please come and learn how to knit, learn how to purl, learn how to make something for yourself or for someone else! Or, come and show us something neat that you do! Or, come and just talk about knitting! Knitters love to meet other knitters -- young and old.

Happy knitting!

MangaFest '06

It's coming up this month!! Save the date--Wednesday, February 22. Save the time--12-6 PM.

The MangaFest will be held in the Meeting Room next to the Children's Room. We need some help with some final planning, and details. All volunteers are most welcome. So far MangaFest is shaping up well. We'll have NEW manga to preview and rate. (They will be available to check-out from the library after the MangaFest.) We'll also be screening two anime films during the day. Still in the works are a couple of contests, and we have some manga readers to give away that have been donated by VizMedia. Please e-mail Sara if you are available to help out, or if you have any ideas. And, whether you love manga or you're new to manga definitely plan to come hang out with us that day.

Author Birthdays on 2/1

Two popular young adult authors are celebrating birthdays today, February 1st. Meg Cabot’s website tells you all you’d ever want to know about her. You can find copies of Teen Idol and All-American Girl in YA Fiction. And here’s a hint—the Children’s Room also has some of her books. They even have a copy of Teen Idol on CD, and tape cassettes and a video of The Princess Diaries.
Jerry Spinelli also has a birthday today. Warning: his website takes a long time to load. But there’s a lot of interesting material to explore. At our library you will find Jerry Spinelli’s books up in the Children’s Room. In fact…. There’s a lot of good stuff up there!! More about that later.
