Volunteer Party

We had four teens attend the annual Library Volunteer Party last Saturday. Need I mention what the theme of this year's party was? Some of us wore grass skirts, some of us learned to hula, and all of us enjoyed the food and the chance to try some new dishes. The expert planning team (staff members Therese, Sue, and Lindsay) did a great job, and this may be something the TAB could get involved with next year--it's fun!!

Just Unpacked

... and recommended by library director Jerry Carbone are two new books called The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray and Poison. Both of then are written by Chris Wooding. Book Awards

Stay tuned for the announcement of two annual book awards that teen readers should take note of.
The first one is the Alex Award. This award has been given since 1998. Alex Awards are given to ten books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults, ages 12 through 18. Winning titles are selected from the previous year’s publishing.
The second one is the Michael L. Printz Award for a book of literary excellence in young adult literature. Last year’s winner was how I live now by Meg Rosoff. It is a tale about Daisy, a troubled 15-year-old who finds true love and a sense of home with her cousins in England during an occupation by terrorist forces. It’s an unusual book that is definitely worth reading.
The library will have a display of past winners on the YA Display Table next week. As usual, we depend on all of you to help our display disappear!

Thursday, January 26th – Cookie Thursday at 3:00

Note that this is the first meeting of the Knitting Circle. If you’ve ever wanted to learn to knit, please join us. Leslie Markey, knitting and spinning librarian extraordinaire will tell us about some of the knitting books that the library owns. If you’ve never looked, you’ll be surprised to see what a variety of knitting books are available.
